Received Ubuntu 7.10 CDs!

Last month, I eagerly waited for the release of Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), a very popular GNU/Linux distribution. Once it was out on 18-Nov-2007, I quickly downloaded it, and requested for two Ubuntu CDs a few days later. After about four weeks of waiting, the CDs finally reached my hands yesterday all the way from The Netherlands!

Well, I don't request the CDs just for fun, but I also help others to install this wonderful distro. I have installed Ubuntu on three computers, and I will install it on other two computers soon. There are some advantages using the official CD over my home-made Ubuntu CD from the downloaded image and made by my CD burner. When helping others to install Ubuntu with my home-made CD, people often bombed me some questions:

  • "It looks pirated and illegal! Are you sure that it is truly free?"
  • "You don't need an anti-virus software for this? So my computer is unprotected and will be hacked?? No program to defragment the partitions too??? No way!!"
  • "I don't believe that it is legal for commercial use without paying any money!"

Well, with the nicely packaged CD, I think it helps to answer some questions better and more convincingly. These wordings found on the CD pack and the CD cover that should help: (With some highlights added by me.)

  • "Ubuntu will always be free of charge, including enterprise releases and security updates."
  • "Ubuntu is easy to install, free of viruses, and perfect for laptops, desktops and servers."
  • "Legally free to copy, modify and redistribute."
  • "This CD can be used to install Ubuntu on an unlimited number of PCs, desktops, and laptops. So install it, enjoy it, and pass it on to your family, friends, and colleagues!"

I also received four nice Ubuntu stickers. Looking for good places to paste them...
